Matt Jacobson to Make Announcement on 2010 Gubernatorial Campaign

PORTLAND, Maine -- Matt Jacobson plans to make an official statement next Thursday regarding his candidacy for Governor of Maine. Jacobson today released details of a formal announcement to take place at Portland’s Ocean Gateway on Thursday, May 7, at 4:30 p.m.

In February, Matt Jacobson announced the formation of an exploratory committee to consider a gubernatorial campaign. Jacobson has received an overwhelmingly positive response from individuals and audiences around Maine and around the country in the months since that announcement. After discussions with his family and campaign committee, the decision about a run for Governor of Maine has been made.

“I see amazing potential to make the state’s economy world class. But to make that happen, we need leadership that will push Maine in the right direction. We need to prioritize bringing private sector jobs to Maine, and not relying on government programs to boost our collective economic fortunes. We need to focus on the things we are best at and then excel in those fields,” said Jacobson.

“Strengthening Maine’s economy requires radically restructuring our outmoded educational system and reforming our state government’s inefficient tax policies. We must embrace alternative energy production in Maine -- both for its economic development potential as well as with a goal of lowering the cost of energy in Maine. From the economy to education, and from energy to the size and scope of government and its regulations, we need leadership to implement changes to allow Maine to compete and win in this new economy,” he said.

“We need fewer studies, task forces and commissions – and more action. Maine families and communities will prosper with greater opportunities and smart public policies designed to keep jobs here and bring new jobs to the state. Our problems can be overcome with proven leadership and results-based experience,” said Jacobson. “Your jobs. Your families. Your communities. These are my priorities.”

Jacobson will make an official announcement regarding his campaign at a public event on Thursday, May 7 at 4:30 p.m. at the new Ocean Gateway terminal on Commercial Street in Portland, Maine. The statement will be immediately followed by a private fundraising reception.

Members of the media are encouraged to attend. Following a short speech, Matt Jacobson will be available to answer questions about his campaign and Maine’s economic future.
