Army/Navy game challenge leads to picture on Wednesday with General Libby

PORTLAND, ME - The first contest in the gubernatorial campaign is over. Last week, Republican gubernatorial candidate Matt Jacobson challenged Democratic gubernatorial candidate Steven Rowe to a friendly wager over the annual Army/Navy game. Jacobson graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, and Rowe graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

The bet: The losing team's candidate wears the opposing team's jersey in a photo.

This Wednesday, December 16th at 1:30 p.m., Major General John W. Libby, Adjutant General of the Maine National Guard, will host the two candidates at his office at Camp Keyes in Augusta for an official photo and exchange of Army and Navy jerseys in honor and recognition of our veterans. Mr. Rowe will don a Navy jersey for the photo.

"While I was happy to see Navy win and I appreciate Steve's good-natured participation, this friendly wager allows us to call attention to our active duty military, national guard and veterans across our state and country," Jacobson said. "Military service to our country continues to be an honor for all who serve. Our small recognition of their service is well-deserved."
